Walter Fontanini is a professor of criminal psychology in the Department of Criminal and Penitentiary Law at the Faculty of Law in Budapest. He also teaches the Ethics of Scientific Research at various doctoral schools of neurosciences and neuropharmacology. His courses address the moral and legal dimensions of academic work in an increasingly complex digital and regulatory environment.
With academic degrees in law, philosophy, economics, theology, psychology and sociology, his work is characterised by a deeply interdisciplinary perspective grounded in the dignity of the Person. He is actively engaged in academic cooperation across Europe, Asia and Latin America, and is strongly committed to responsible research practices, ethical scholarship and the professional development of early-career researchers.
Copyright in Academic Publishing draws on the author’s experience of teaching at various doctoral schools, where students from different academic disciplines often find it difficult to understand the legal terminology used in publishing contracts and copyright agreements. While these students frequently produce valuable research findings and innovative ideas, sometimes with significant economic or applied potential, they often become overwhelmed and go into a "Blue screen mode" when asked to sign contracts involving complex copyright transfer, licensing terms and intellectual property clauses. This book provides clear guidance that considers legal, ethical, and academic perspectives, supporting transparent, informed, and responsible authorship in an increasingly commercialised and contract-driven research environment.
